Male Children of Jeremiah Compton Sr and his first wife Mary 1. Bartemus “Bartley” Compton (1815 – 1899) – married Catherine Stiltner in Pike County, Ky in 1837. Bart lived first in the present day Grundy area close to his father in law, he next moved to the Hurricane Creek area of Buchanan County, Va then he moved to Minnesota in 1871 taking along his youngest children but leaving the three oldest children in Buchanan County. Findagravelink 2. Jeremiah Compton Jr. (1817 – 1890) – married Marth McGhee in Russell County, Va in 1839. Jeremiah Jr. first lived on the Thompson Creek farm then after his father’s death moved to the base of Big A Mountain in Buchanan County then around 1868 moved to Abner’s Gap, present day Dickenson County, Va, where he would live the rest of his life. Female Children of Jeremiah Compton Sr. and his first wife Mary 1. Parcidy Compton – born about 1807 and died in the mid to late 1840’s, never married but had eight children with John Yates Jr., she lived in the Vansant area of present day Buchanan County near John Yates Jr. 2. Mary Compton – born about 1811 and died about 1849, married Joseph Yates and had six children by him. Jeremiah Compton Sr deeded Mary and Joseph the original farm on Thompson Creek in 1848 in exchange for Mary and Joseph taking care of he and his second wife Courtney (who was the mother of Joseph) 3. Rachel Compton – born about 1822 and died in 1853, married John Murphy Jr., this daughter is not confirmed but her death certificate states she was the daughter of Jarry Compton and Mary.
Jeremiah Compton Sr. had at least two other daughters by his first wife but they are unidentified at this point.
