This website will not explore the Abraham Compton Jr. family who started in Russell County in the late 1700’s then migrated to Scott County in the early 1800’s. This Compton family is well documented and researched. Many descendants remain in Scott County and surrounding areas today. The Y-DNA of male descendants of Abraham Compton Jr. does not match either the Russell County Compton family or the Tazewell County Compton family. (Jeremiah Compton has mistakenly been linked to Abraham Compton Jr. since the publication of Comptonology but now that relationship has been disproved thanks to DNA research.)
This website will not explore the John Compton Sr. family of early Tazewell County, Virginia. This family originally settled in the present day area of Bluefield, Virginia around the time of the Revolutionary War. The Tazewell Compton family has a distinct Y-DNA fingerprint that matches neither the Russell County Compton family or the Abraham Compton family of Scott County. (The true children of Thomas Compton (1788 – 1855) have mistakenly been attributed to the Tazewell County Compton family due to a statement in Comptonology causing many years of confution.)
This website is dedicated to Jeremiah, David and Thomas Compton who spent most of their lives around the Thompson Creek, Honaker, Virginia area.
